Description

The Painting Holiday are for students who want to experience living with the locals and paint on location in a Medieval Village that has not changed in hundreds of years. Workshop sessions are held Monday thru Friday. We offer 3 consecutive sessions (3 weeks) some in different locations for students who would like to stay longer and have a free weekend (Sat & Sun) to explore the Italian Riviera, Cinque Terra, Portofino, or South of France, Monte Carlo, Monaco, Nice, Cannes, etc., or travel around Italy. Workshop classes are small 3 – 6, this is intentional which enables the instructor to spend more time with each student and assess each of their specific needs. Examples of sites are: Ceriana’s famous Cathedrals, cobble stone labyrinthine, abandoned olive mills along the river, ruins, fruit markets, Mediterranean seaport, olive groves, vineyards, ancient palazzos and everyday life scene in a small Medieval Village.

Elaine Hahn - The Workshop will be painting on location from direct observations. Artists will be encouraged to simplify the subject matter through focusing on the composition, massing shapes and color relationships. Working with these three main areas will allow us to identify and address each aspect of any given painting. All of this needs to be handled in a short amount of time because of the quickly changing light. There will be daily demonstrations and lots of personal attention.

Although Elaine will be working in oils in the demonstrations all mediums are welcome. As a teacher she is experienced in many mediums but the emphasis will be to have an enjoyable experience by creating many beautiful plein air paintings in Italy.
