Medieval Easter Traditions

Experience an unforgettable MEDIEVEL EASTER in CERIANA.   These glories Medieval Traditions have been passed-down and celebrated since the Middle Ages.   There are four ConFraternities representing the oldest and most important churches in the Village, they will lead the Medieval Easter Processions with torches, songs & traditional chants.   There are several internationally-known Choral Societies in Ceriana, some of their songs date back to 1216!   Watch the children of Ceriana make horns with chestnut wood in the square, because the church bells are silenced between Good Friday and Easter Sunday and the horns are blown instead.   The Medieval Easter Celebration in Ceriana is widely studied by anthropologist and musicologist experts throughout the world.   These Medieval Traditions have been documented, filmed and internationally televised.   Don’t miss it!
Qualification

The Candidate for this Workshop must love to explore, paint, walk on cobblestone, sleep in simple accommodations and have an adventurous spirit.   The Medieval Adventure Workshop is for people who are looking to experience “How Life Was” during the Middle Ages in Italy.   Capture it, and bring it home.   Paint in plein air and recreate this incredible ambiance.   Able to explore hundreds of narrow cobblestone pathways and stone staircases that lead to beautiful churches, taverns, romantic river, abandoned olive mills, markets, spectacular vistas.   The House-Hostel was built in the late 13th Century; simple with modern conveniences; domed ceilings and stone walls throughout.
Description

The Painting Holiday are for students who want to experience living with the locals and paint on location in a Medieval Village that has not changed in hundreds of years. Workshop sessions are held Monday thru Friday. We offer 3 consecutive sessions (3 weeks) for students who would like to stay longer and have a free weekend (Sat & Sun) to explore the Italian Riviera, Cinque Terra, Portofino, or South of France, Monte Carlo, Monaco, Nice, Cannes, etc., or travel around Italy. Workshop classes are small 3 – 6, this is intentional which enables the instructor to spend more time with each student and assess each of their specific needs. Examples of sites are: Ceriana’s famous Cathedrals, cobble stone labyrinthine, abandoned olive mills along the river, ruins, fruit markets, Mediterranean seaport, olive groves, vineyards, ancient palazzos and everyday life scene in a small Medieval Village.

About Instructor

Frank LaLumia
AWS, NWS, OPA, PAPA

"I envision this class being more of a mentoring experience than a classical workshop. One-on-one help will be offered in a different context than an ordinary workshop. There will be fewer formal lectures, and more time painting together. Every one can go at their own individual painting speed."

Frank LaLumia is a Signature Member of the Plein Air Painters of America (P.A.P.A.); the American Watercolor Society (A.W.S.); the Oil Painters of America (O.P.A.); the National Watercolor Society (N.W.S.); an Artist-Member of the California Art Club; Author of the Book PLEIN AIR PAINTING IN WATERCOLOR AND OIL, North Light Publications; and a Contributing Artist for the P.B.S. Series: PLEIN AIR: PAINTING THE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE. Listed in Who’s Who in American Art.

The artist’s subject matter reflects a wide-ranging interest. Themes of the Landscape are prominent. In addition, recent painting trips to China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Guatemala, Mexico, and Europe have greatly expanded the work, bringing an artist’s eye to the world and a unique voice in today’s art scene.
